Members trying to do Pilates

Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Pilates called his method "Contrology". Well this was certainly not the case at our last meeting when the excellent Jo Taylor, a local Pilates teacher, sought to instruct the Club in the methods and applications of Pilates.

Now we know why James is so keen on Pilates!!

Despite very simple ideas like feet parallel flat on the ground and catching a ball, these tasks were beyond most members present and Jo had to constantly reprimand certain people, yes you Dick, about concentrating on the exercise in hand rather than chatting to their neighbour, Dickie.

Gradually the class settled and with squeezing their balls between their legs and rubbing their thighs, or was it each others, members began to enjoy the Pilates experience. Jo had prepared a varied and interesting range of exercises which could all be done sitting down, well there was no way members could have stood up straight for that length of time.

All parts of the body were exercised and at the end it was generally agreed that it had been an interesting and exhilarating introduction to Pilates. In thanking Jo, James Knight emphasised the importance of bodily fitness for mental agility and longevity.

A great class Jo and well done for keeping order.
